Fire Danger

The image features a bear in a ranger hat next to a fire danger scale indicating "Very High" fire risk.
What does the fire danger mean?

Fire Restrictions

Summit County is currently under Stage 1 Fire Restrictions

Summit County Stage 1 fire restrictions: permitted fire pits, campfires, and grills; no open fires, smoking, or fireworks allowed.
Backyard Fire Permits

We recommend you refrain from having a recreational fire when the fire danger is HIGH, VERY HIGH, or EXTREME or when there is a Red Flag or Fire Weather advisory.

A backyard fire permit application can be obtained here.

The Fire District does not allow control (slash) burning from Memorial Day through Labor Day or when the fire danger is HIGH, VERY HIGH, or EXTREME.  Additonally, control (slash) burning is prohibited under Stage 1 and Stage 2 Fire Restrictions.  A permit is required to have a control burn and can be applied for through our Community Connect platform.

Recreational (camp) fires are allowed within the District unless otherwise indicated by Fire Restrictions.  A permit is required to have a recreational fire on private property throughout all areas of Summit County and can be applied for through our Community Connect platform.
